MARGAO: Food safety authorities have stepped up inspections across Goa ahead of the festive season, with interstate buses in Margao being checked to ensure food products entering the state meet safety and regulatory standards.
As part of the drive, officials also inspected a sweets manufacturing unit at St. Jose de Areal, IDC Nessai, where they found the unit operating without a valid FSSAI licence and under unhygienic conditions.
During the inspection, around 105 kg of Motichur Laddus worth ₹23,220 was detained and later destroyed in the interest of public health.
Authorities said the festive season surveillance drive will continue across Goa to prevent unsafe or non-compliant food products from reaching consumers.
The inspections are particularly focused on sweets and other food items during the festive period, when demand and production increase significantly.
