CANACONA: A total of 148 Varkaris from the Vithal Rakhumai Mauli Varkari Mandal, Canacona, began their 17-day ‘Paim-Vari’ (on-foot pilgrimage) to the holy town of Pandharpur in Maharashtra on Thursday.
The spiritual journey commenced with the traditional Prasthan Sohala at Shri Bhumipurush Temple in Palolem, where devotees offered prayers before embarking on the pilgrimage. With chants of “Ram Krishna Hari” filling the air, the Varkaris began their walk towards the revered Shri Vithala-Rukmini Temple in Pandharpur.
The ceremonial flag-off was attended by Goa Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, former MLA Vijay Pai Khot, Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari, social activist Shubham Komarpant, and a large gathering of devotees.
Throughout the 17-day pilgrimage, participants will observe traditional devotional practices such as Namasmaran, Dindi, Bhajans, Haripat, Aartis, Prasad distribution, and other spiritual programmes.
The pilgrimage will conclude on July 25, when the devotees arrive at the Shri Vithala-Rukmini Temple in Pandharpur to mark the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi.
