225 Kg Unlabelled Frozen Jamun Seized at Mapusa Bus Stand

MAPUSA: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has seized 225 kg of unlabelled frozen jamun worth around ₹50,000 during an early-morning food safety surveillance operation at the interstate Mapusa bus stand.

The consignment had been transported from Pune for a local hotel, which intended to use the jamun for ice cream preparations and supply it to other units. The FDA found that the hotel did not have a valid FSSAI registration and imposed a ₹10,000 penalty under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The FDA has also sought action from the Maharashtra FDA against the Pune-based supplier for sending the consignment without mandatory labelling. The seized stock was subsequently destroyed with the assistance of the Mapusa Municipality.

During the drive, officials inspected 30 buses and directed two restaurants to stop operations after finding unhygienic conditions.

In separate action, FDA North Goa suspended operations at Blinkit and Instamart units in Porvorim and an Instamart unit in Taleigao over operational and hygiene violations.

The department has also intensified checks on milk products, including paneer and kalkand, to detect non-dairy products being sold in violation of food safety norms.

The FDA said inspections will continue across Goa and warned food businesses to comply with licensing, hygiene and food safety requirements.
