26-Year-Old Dies After Scooter Crashes Into Cattle at Davorlim

MARGAO: A 26-year-old scooter rider lost his life after allegedly crashing into cattle sitting on the road near Hegdewar School at Zariwado, Davorlim, in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit Sanjay Kavlekar (26), a resident of Malbhat, Margao, according to Maina Curtorim Police.

Police said Rohit was riding a scooter without a registration number plate from Zariwado towards Vasudev Nagar when the accident took place at around 3.45 am. As he approached Hegdewar School, the scooter reportedly struck cattle resting on the roadway, causing him to lose control and crash.

He suffered critical head and chest injuries in the impact. Local residents rushed to his aid and alerted the 108 emergency ambulance service, which transported him to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao. However, doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

An inquest was carried out, and the body was sent to SGDH for a post-mortem examination. The police surgeon stated that the cause of death was cranio-cerebral and thoracic injuries, including a fracture at the base of the skull, lung laceration, haemothorax, haemorrhage and shock caused by blunt force trauma to the chest.

After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.

Maina Curtorim Police have registered an unnatural death under UD No. 34/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). PSI Ashutosh Naik is conducting further inquiry.
