HM Vishwajit Rane Clarifies Stance, Apologizes to Doctor, Urges Against Politicizing Issue

Panjim:This issue has unfortunately taken a political turn, and it’s important for the people of Goa to understand the facts. I want to clarify that I hold no personal ego in this matter. Public service runs in my blood—my father has been a Minister since I was born, and I have always worked at the grassroots level to serve the people of Goa.

It was never my intention to create a controversy. The file regarding the suspension of the doctor in question was never moved, nor was any formal directive issued from my end. What I said in that moment was out of frustration, triggered by repeated complaints I had received about the functioning of the casualty department.

Yes, we are under pressure—expectations from the public are high, and as a Minister, I am accountable to them. That said, I acknowledge that my reaction could have been more measured. While I was once known as an ‘angry young man,’ I’ve made conscious efforts to change. I don’t easily lose my temper anymore—especially with medical professionals who work under immense pressure themselves.

I would like to offer a sincere apology to Dr. Kuttikar and his family for my behaviour. However, I also want to stress that professional discipline in our health system must not be compromised. Accountability must go hand-in-hand with respect.

Let us all work together to improve healthcare delivery in Goa, free from political agendas and personal attacks.”
