AAP Goa State President Valmiki Naik and Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai, along with other party leaders, appealed to the people of Goa to unite against the forced use of E20 petrol by visiting StopE20Petrol.com and signing a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in support of the demands raised by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
The campaign forwards two key demands to the Prime Minister. Firstly, that pure petrol should be made available at every petrol pump alongside E20 petrol, allowing consumers to decide which fuel they wish to purchase. Secondly, since E20 petrol provides lower mileage and has lower calorific value, its price should be ₹80 per litre, lower than that of regular petrol.
Addressing the media, AAP Goa State President Valmiki Naik stated that E20 petrol, containing 20 percent ethanol, has been sold across Goa for the past several months with vehicle owners facing problems due to no fault of their own. The BJP Government implemented the transition without proper planning leaving vehicle owners to bear the consequences.
Valmiki Naik said that as they interacted with people at petrol pumps and mechanics, many consumers have experienced a noticeable drop in mileage, while mechanics across Goa have reported increasing complaints that are related to the change in fuel composition. He stated that consumers should have the freedom to choose the fuel most suitable for their vehicles.
He further stated that nearly 80 percent of people are not even aware that they are already filling E20 petrol into their vehicles. According to him, consumers deserve transparency and informed choice instead of being compelled to use E20 blended fuel and the blended fuel must be sold at much cheaper rate than regular petrol.
AAP Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai stated that AAP leaders visited several petrol pumps across Goa and interacted with motorists and many shared that they had noticed reduced mileage in their own vehicles but were unaware that the change coincided with the introduction of E20 petrol. He appealed to every Goan to visit StopE20Petrol.com, sign the petition and support the demand for consumer choice at petrol pumps. He also added that some consumers were not even aware that E20 petrol has been being filled in this tanks.
AAP leaders stated that mechanics also informed AAP that vehicles were experiencing repeated fuel tank, engine-related issues, forcing owners to spend heavily on repairs.
AAP leaders appealed to every Goan to unite, sign the letter through StopE20Petrol.com and support the demand that consumers be given a genuine choice of fuel so that people don’t have to bear the consequences of Government’s failed unplanned policies and ensuring that E20 petrol is fairly priced according to its lower fuel efficiency.
