AGKMS CHALLENGES GOA ST RESERVATION MOVE, DEMANDS FRESH CENSUS

The Akhil Gomantak Kshatriya Maratha Samaj (AGKMS) has opposed the implementation of ST political reservation in the Goa Assembly without a fresh Census.

AGKMS president Suhas Fal Dessai questioned the reliance on 2001 Census figures, pointing out that the community received ST status only in 2003. The organisation argued that updated population data is essential before deciding the extent and allocation of political reservation.

The Samaj has placed four key demands before the government — postpone reservation until a fresh Census, publish caste-wise population data, release constituency-wise ST voter figures, and conduct delimitation followed by rotational reservation based on the actual ST population.

Following the Centre’s notification, the AGKMS Core Committee met at Porvorim to discuss the issue and decide its next course of action.

The organisation has warned that it will continue its opposition until its concerns over updated demographic data and the reservation process are addressed.
