Tension broke out at Baina after the Principal and a teacher of Deep Vihar School visited the residence of the 16-year-old Class XI student who allegedly died during a school trekking activity at a waterfall in Sattari.
The school representatives, who arrived with police personnel, came to offer condolences but were met with anger from the grieving parents and local residents. The family questioned the timing of the visit and sought answers about the circumstances leading to the student’s death.
The parents alleged that they faced difficulties getting information when they were first informed that something had gone wrong during the trek. They are now demanding accountability from those involved in organising and conducting the activity.
The family plans to meet Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and seek the formation of a committee for a detailed inquiry. They want the investigation to examine the role of teachers, school management, headmistress, tour operators and others involved.
The parents are also demanding stronger safety protocols for school treks and educational tours so that no other family faces a similar tragedy.
