Merces, June 26: The Additional Sessions Court has rejected the bail plea of accused No. 9, Muttappa alias Sunny Nikode, in the sensational murder case of Ahmad Devdi, registered under Crime No. 91/2024 at the Mapusa Police Station.
The accused sought bail on the grounds of parity, citing that another co-accused had recently been granted bail by the High Court. He contended that his role was limited to providing transportation to one of the accused after the incident.
However, the prosecution opposed the plea, asserting that Muttappa was an active conspirator in the murder plot. The State relied on call detail records and witness statements, which allegedly established his involvement in assisting the accused before and after the crime.
Appearing for the victim’s family, Advocate Vinayak D. Porob strongly objected to the bail application, arguing that the seriousness of the offence, the alleged conspiracy, and the possibility of influencing witnesses weighed against granting bail.
After considering the submissions, the court observed that no new circumstances had arisen since the High Court had earlier rejected the accused’s bail application. The judge further held that the grant of bail to a co-accused does not automatically entitle another accused to similar relief, particularly when evidence suggests a distinct role in the conspiracy.
Consequently, the court dismissed the bail application of Muttappa alias Sunny Nikode.
