BSNL Telecom Infrastructure Hit by Series of Theft, Vandalism Cases in South Goa

SOUTH GOA: A series of alleged theft and vandalism incidents targeting BSNL telecom infrastructure have been reported across South Goa, disrupting telephone services and causing losses to the public-sector telecom operator.

The latest case was reported near the Sub District Hospital at Chicalim, where two unidentified persons allegedly attempted to steal a BSNL pillar while posing as BSNL employees. The attempt was reportedly foiled after former BSNL contract workers intervened.

Several other cases involve the alleged theft of underground cables, copper power cables, OFC and equipment connected to 4G services from BSNL exchanges in Chicalim and Sancoale.

BSNL pillar cabinets have also reportedly been targeted in Davorlim, Colva, Fatorda, Navelim and Margao, with alleged offenders breaking open cabinets, disconnecting wires and removing tag blocks and other components.

According to the complaints, the incidents have disrupted telephone services in several areas, with reported losses ranging from a few thousand rupees to ₹1.25 lakh in the Colmorod, Navelim case.

Police stations in Vasco, Verna, Maina-Curtorim, Colva, Fatorda and Margao are investigating the respective cases. The identities and motives of the alleged offenders have not yet been established.
