Benaulim:AAP Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas launched the campaign ‘Our Hotel Taxi Stand Drivers – The Safest, Hire Them Only’ with the support of local taxi drivers to encourage tourists visiting Goa to hire taxis from authorised hotel taxi stands rather than illegal app-based taxi services.
With the tourist season beginning, Capt. Venzy Viegas highlighted that there are around 15 hotels and 15 taxi stands in the Benaulim constituency. He said that despite concerns being raised with the government, taxi operators and police, illegal app-based taxi services continue to operate and take away hotel guests, affecting local taxi drivers who depend on this livelihood.
Capt. Venzy Viegas appealed to tourists visiting Goa to use the services of local taxi drivers at hotel taxi stands and hire them for travel anywhere in Goa. He assured tourists that these local drivers are safe and reliable and urged hotels to also encourage their guests to use local taxi services.
He further stated that those attempting to operate illegally in the area would be peacefully resisted. He said that the absence of proper government regulations should not be used as an opportunity by outside operators to take away the livelihood of local taxi drivers.
He added that many families in the Benaulim constituency depend entirely on taxi services for their livelihood, and the campaign has been launched to protect their interests and support local drivers during the tourist season.
