Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz has questioned the motives behind recent protests against development proposals in the village, alleging that political interests may be influencing the opposition.
Vaz said the protests have raised concerns over land use, environmental protection, NDZ and CRZ provisions. He alleged that Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas had been actively involved in some of the campaigns.
He maintained that disputes over development should be examined through official documents, permissions and applicable regulations rather than political campaigns. Vaz also alleged that attempts were being made to prevent or delay development activities in Cavelossim.
Defending the panchayat’s role, Vaz said proposals were processed according to prescribed procedures and that decisions were not taken unilaterally.
On the Ashford SCDC Resorts LLP proposal, Vaz said the panchayat received the application in April 2026, following which the site was inspected and the proposal was processed.
He further said all seven panchayat members supported the proposal, rejecting claims that the decision was taken individually.
Vaz said the panchayat’s position should be judged based on official records and the procedure followed in handling the project.
