Panjim: A day after Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant warned of strict action against those raising “Hindutva Murdabad” slogans during Sunday’s protest, the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) Goa unit on Thursday clarified that it does not endorse or support any statements, slogans or actions that hurt or disrespect anyone’s religious beliefs or sentiments.
A group of young girls were seen raising “Hindutva Murdabad” slogans during the CJP protest in Panaji on Sunday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Chief Minister on Wednesday assured stern legal action against those indulging in such sloganeering.
“We would also like to make our position absolutely clear. CJP respects all religions, castes and communities. We do not endorse or support any statements, slogans or actions that hurt or disrespect anyone’s religious beliefs or sentiments,” the statement posted on Instagram by CJP Goa read.
It further stated that the proposed gathering on October 11, 2026, was intended solely to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and raise public awareness about electoral integrity and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
“Our objective is clear and unwavering: to restore public trust in the Election Commission and uphold the integrity, transparency, and fairness of the electoral process. Our concerns are institutional and democratic, not religious or communal,” CJP said.
The party further added, “We appeal to the public to understand our purpose in the right context and not to associate CJP’s campaign for electoral accountability with any statements or slogans that go against our principles.”
“CJP Goa remains committed to constitutional values, democratic accountability, and electoral integripanjimty,” it added.
