Congress Begins Alliance Talks with AAP, RGP Ahead of 2027 Goa Polls

PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has begun exploring an opposition alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar said preliminary discussions have already been held with Goa AAP chief Valmiki Naik and RGP president Viresh Borkar, with both leaders responding positively to the idea of a broader opposition front.

Chodankar said Congress wants the opposition to contest the next Assembly elections together, with formal discussions on alliance terms and seat-sharing expected to begin soon.

The Congress has also kept the door open for the Goa Forward Party (GFP). However, GFP has currently suspended talks with Congress.

Chodankar said Congress is waiting for GFP to resume discussions and remains ready to engage once the suspension is lifted.

The move comes as Goa’s opposition parties consider joining forces to challenge the ruling BJP in the 2027 Assembly elections, with seat-sharing and the possibility of a common electoral strategy likely to be key issues in the coming months.
