Congress Demands Criminal Action Against Five Goa Policemen Over Alleged Custodial Abuse

Panaji: The Congress on Monday demanded the registration of criminal cases against five Goa Police personnel accused of allegedly assaulting four persons, including a minor, while they were in custody at Maina-Curtorim Police Station.

A Congress delegation led by spokespersons Amit Palekar and Samil Volvoikar, Youth Congress chief Archit Naik, Mahila Congress president Pratiksha Khalap, and local leader Moreno Rebello met DGP Alok Kumar at the Police Headquarters in Panaji and sought strict action.

The party said the incident took place on June 6 after four individuals were detained following a clash between two groups. Five policemen, including two PSIs and three constables, have already been suspended.

Congress leaders demanded that criminal charges be filed under the Goa Children’s Act and the POCSO Act, alleging that one of the victims was a minor and that the detainees were subjected to degrading treatment in custody.
