MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has strongly rejected the BJP’s allegations that Rahul Gandhi disrespected Goa’s traditional Kunbi shawl during his recent visit to the state, accusing the ruling party of twisting the incident for political gain.
Reacting to a video shared by the Goa BJP on social media, Congress leader Amarnath Panjikar clarified that Gandhi had not thrown away the shawl but had placed it on the podium.
Panjikar stated that Gandhi had handed him the shawl, saying, “This is for you.”
Accusing the BJP of misrepresenting the incident, Panjikar said the controversy was being used to create unnecessary outrage and suggest disrespect towards Goa’s cultural and tribal identity.
He further alleged that the BJP was attempting to divert public attention from pressing issues concerning the state government.
Panjikar also questioned the ruling party over the alleged misuse of ₹4.40 crore in Prerana Din funds, calling for greater transparency and accountability in the expenditure.
