Congress Slams LPG Price Hike, Questions BJP Over Promise of Free Cylinders

Panaji, June 7: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Media and Communication Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar has criticised the latest increase in domestic LPG cylinder prices, accusing the BJP government of placing an additional financial burden on households already struggling with rising living costs.Addressing the issue, Panjikar said the BJP had promised to provide three free LPG cylinders to eligible families during the Assembly election campaign and questioned why the commitment remains unfulfilled.“Every increase in LPG prices reminds Goans of the BJP’s promise of three free cylinders. The people have a right to know whether the government intends to honour that assurance or if it was merely an election promise made to secure votes,” he said.Panjikar argued that repeated hikes in cooking gas prices, combined with inflation in essential commodities, fuel, healthcare and education, have made it increasingly difficult for middle-class and lower-income families to manage household expenses. He alleged that while the government spends heavily on publicity and promotional campaigns, it has failed to provide meaningful relief to citizens facing economic challenges. The Congress leader also questioned the silence of the BJP Mahila Morcha on the issue, stating that rising LPG prices have a direct impact on women who are often responsible for managing household budgets.“Women are being forced to make difficult choices as household expenses continue to rise. A government that claims to support women must address the growing burden caused by increasing cooking gas prices,” he said.Panjikar demanded an immediate rollback of the latest LPG price hike and urged the Goa Government to implement its electoral promise of providing three free LPG cylinders to families. He maintained that the people of Goa have not forgotten the commitments made before the elections and deserve clear answers from the government on the issue.
