CAVELOSSIM: A joint CRZ inspection at the Ashford project in Cavelossim on Thursday focused on allegations of unauthorised metal-sheet fencing and damage to an existing sand dune.
Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas, along with local villagers, panchayat representatives and the original complainant, participated in the inspection.
Viegas alleged that the temporary metal-sheet structures did not have the required permission and questioned the Cavelossim panchayat’s authority to issue such permission under TCP provisions if the property falls within the CRZ area.
He also alleged that an existing sand dune at the site had been damaged and urged the authorities to take appropriate action and ensure strict compliance with CRZ regulations.
The MLA called for the permission for the metal sheets to be revoked and stressed that activities affecting protected coastal features should not be allowed.
Villagers from Mobor-Cavelossim also raised concerns over the alleged violations and their possible impact on the coastal environment.
Viegas said Thursday’s inspection was only the beginning and that he would continue to follow up with the concerned authorities on the matter.
