PANAJI: Goa BJP President Damu Naik on Wednesday said that St Cruz MLA Babush Monserrate did not consult the party before inaugurating a BJP office in St Cruz, stressing that the BJP’s organisational structure does not permit two party offices within the same Assembly constituency.
Speaking at a press conference, Naik said the party would invite both Babush Monserrate and BJP leader Rudolf Fernandes for discussions to resolve the matter amicably and maintain unity within the organisation. He added that the issue would be addressed through the party’s internal mechanism in accordance with its established organisational principles.
His remarks come amid growing political attention over the existence of parallel BJP offices in the St Cruz constituency, where Monserrate and Fernandes are both seen as prominent leaders ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
On the issue of Assembly election tickets, Naik said the BJP has a well-defined process for selecting candidates and that the decision would be taken at the appropriate time. He welcomed the enthusiasm among party workers to contest the 2027 elections, saying it reflected the party’s growing organisational strength.
Naik reiterated that the BJP has set a target of winning 30 seats in the 2027 Goa Assembly elections and expressed confidence that the party would further strengthen its presence across the state.
Referring to upcoming party programmes, Naik said Union Home Minister Amit Shah is tentatively scheduled to visit Goa on September 6, with another programme proposed for September 7. However, he clarified that the itinerary has not yet been finalised and would be officially announced once confirmed.
He also said the BJP’s new state headquarters is approximately 95 per cent complete and in its final phase of construction, adding that it will soon be ready for inauguration.
