Damu Naik Slams Congress Over National Herald Case

PANAJI: BJP Goa President Damu Naik has come down heavily on the Congress Party over the ongoing National Herald property case, calling the party’s actions “unacceptable” and accusing it of evading investigation.Speaking to reporters, Naik criticized Congress for playing the victim instead of cooperating with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which has summoned several Congress leaders for questioning in connection with the case.“The National Herald case was initiated on November 1, 2012, during the UPA government. Now, when the ED is carrying out its duties, Congress leaders are portraying themselves as victims instead of facing the probe. This behavior is highly irresponsible and unacceptable,” Naik said.He further stated that no individual or party is above the law, and that investigative agencies must be allowed to function without interference or political drama.The case pertains to alleged financial irregularities involving the transfer of properties linked to the National Herald newspaper, originally established by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Congress has repeatedly claimed that the investigation is politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices.Naik, however, dismissed these allegations, asserting that the law must take its course.“If they have done no wrong, why fear the investigation?” he asked.The National Herald case continues to be a major flashpoint between the BJP and Congress, with both parties exchanging sharp accusations over the intent and integrity of the ongoing probe.
