SANGUEM: The Dhangar community has stepped up its demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, warning of a large-scale agitation if the government fails to take decisive action on the long-pending issue.
A public meeting was held on July 26 at Devre Netravali and Dhangarwada in Sanguem taluka, drawing a large turnout of community members, including women and senior citizens, who voiced their support for the reservation demand.
Addressing the gathering, community leaders said the prolonged delay in granting ST reservation has caused growing frustration among members. They stressed that the demand is non-negotiable and urged the government to act without further delay.
Leaders also warned that if the issue continues to be ignored, members of the community may resign from government-appointed positions as well as political party posts in protest.
The meeting concluded with a call to intensify the movement, with participants declaring that preparations are underway for an agitation. Raising the slogan “One Mission – Dhangar ST Reservation,” they reaffirmed their commitment to continue the struggle until the community is granted Scheduled Tribe status.
