BARDEZ: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carried out a surveillance drive across Bardez, inspecting six food establishments, including sweet and farsan manufacturing units, and directed two establishments to suspend operations over unhygienic conditions.
During the inspections, officials destroyed 320 kg of farsan worth ₹64,000 and 185 kg of mawa valued at ₹37,000.
According to the FDA, the food products were prepared and stored in unhygienic conditions. The mawa was also found to have been stored without adequate refrigeration, raising food safety concerns.
The two establishments have been ordered to remain closed until the deficiencies pointed out by the FDA are rectified and the required food safety standards are met.
The FDA said such surveillance drives will continue across Goa to ensure compliance with prescribed hygiene and food safety norms. Food business operators have also been urged to strictly follow the required standards.
The inspection team comprised Designated Officer Richard Noronha, Food Safety Officers Amit Mandrekar and Darlane Diukar, and staff members Sainath Chari and Sandeep Shelke. The drive was conducted under the guidance of FDA Director Shweta Dessai.
