FDA Inspects Porvorim Canteens; 3 Units Ordered to Shut Over Hygiene Lapses

PANAJI: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stepped up inspections of canteens and eateries operating in and around office establishments in Porvorim, with three units ordered to stop operations after officials found serious hygiene and structural deficiencies.

The surveillance drive covered four establishments, including three canteens serving government offices and one private restaurant. FDA officials found several shortcomings that raised concerns about food safety and kitchen hygiene.

The three affected units have been directed to remain closed until the identified deficiencies are rectified. The FDA will conduct follow-up inspections to verify compliance before allowing them to resume operations.

The department is now planning a special state-wide inspection drive covering canteens operating in both government and private institutions.

The FDA has also directed canteen contractors to strictly follow prescribed food safety and hygiene standards.

Officials said ensuring safe and hygienic food remains a priority and warned that food safety requirements cannot be compromised. Inspections and monitoring will continue across the state to ensure compliance.
