PANAJI: A female leopard that accidentally fell into an open well at Loliem in Canacona was successfully rescued by the South Goa Forest Division and released back into the wild after being declared fit by veterinarians.
The Forest Department said the rescue operation was launched immediately after receiving information about the incident. Trained personnel used specialised rescue equipment to safely retrieve the leopard from the well under the supervision of veterinary experts.
Following the rescue, the animal underwent a thorough health examination and was found to have sustained no injuries. It was subsequently released into its natural habitat within a few hours.
The operation was carried out by the South Goa Forest Division with the support of veterinary professionals. Deputy Conservator of Forests (South Goa Division) Santosh Reddy, IFS, along with forest officers, frontline staff and the veterinary team, was appreciated for the prompt and coordinated response that ensured the leopard’s safe rescue and release.
The Forest Department said the successful operation reflects its ongoing commitment to wildlife conservation and to promoting the safe coexistence of people and wild animals while safeguarding Goa’s biodiversity.
