FRRO Intensifies Visa Checks in Goa, Detains Two Foreign Women

PANAJI: The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has detained two foreign nationals in separate cases involving alleged visa violations, as authorities step up checks on immigration compliance across Goa.

One of those detained is a 36-year-old Nigerian woman who allegedly continued to stay in India after the expiry of her medical visa. According to officials, she had entered India in 2021 for medical treatment, but her visa was valid only for a limited period that year.

Officials also found that her passport had reportedly expired recently.

In a separate case, FRRO officials detained a 42-year-old Kenyan woman who allegedly overstayed her tourist visa. She had reportedly entered India in December 2025.

The two women were reportedly staying at the same hotel in Anjuna, though in separate rooms.

Following their detention, both were handed over to Anjuna Police for further legal proceedings. Authorities are also expected to complete the necessary formalities for their transfer to a detention facility.

The action comes days after a similar FRRO operation in North Goa, during which several foreign nationals were reportedly detained at different locations over alleged visa overstays.

Authorities have intensified immigration checks across the state as part of efforts to monitor compliance with visa conditions and take action against foreign nationals found allegedly violating immigration rules.
