Panaji, October 18: The Goa unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of disrespecting Goa’s culture and tribal identity by allegedly throwing aside a traditional Kunbi shawl during a public programme.
The Goa BJP shared a video of the incident on social media and strongly criticised Gandhi’s conduct, describing it as an insult to Goa’s traditions and the pride of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.
In its social media post, the BJP stated that the Kunbi shawl is not merely a piece of cloth but represents Goa’s tradition, the hard work of its people and the cultural identity of the tribal community.
The party alleged that Gandhi carelessly threw the shawl aside on stage and claimed that his action reflected a lack of respect for Goa’s cultural heritage.
The BJP further accused Gandhi of repeatedly disrespecting Hindu traditions and tribal pride, describing the alleged incident as a reflection of his mindset rather than an accidental act.
The party also targeted the Goa Congress leadership, asking its leaders to teach Gandhi basic respect for Goa’s culture, traditions and tribal identity before inviting him to the state again.
The allegations were made through a video and accompanying statement published on the Goa BJP’s official social media platform.
