Goa cops plan to launch app for real-time checks on non-locals

Worried about individuals with criminal antecedents, Goa police plans to launch an intelligent system that will allow real-time authentication of tourists, tenants and migrant workers entering the state.Goa police said that the main aim is to digitally streamline guest entity verification by providing a foolproof user-friendly platform for verifying the identity of tourists, tenants, migrant workers and others visiting Goa in order to improve public safety by preventing fake identities.The app-based system will use govt data to identify if the migrant workers, tourists or tenants have a criminal record or if international tourists have overstayed their visa.Govt hopes that the app-based system will reduce the ratio of criminal activities and simplify the process to verify the identity of every person entering the state.The Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) has been asked to develop this system for the Goa police. “It is a need of the hour to assist Goa police in investigating crimes and to apprehend the culprits,” said a document that outlines police’s proposal.The app will help police enhance overall security and safety for residents, facilitate real-time criminal record checks, streamline the verification processes and provide an emergency notification system for efficient communication during crises.Goa sees thousands of visitors from different regions and in different capacities, but there is no system to track these individuals.Therefore, to reduce the ratio of criminal activities and to take preliminary precautions by verifying the identity of every visitor, it is essential to develop an intelligent digital system that enhances the safety and security of citizens in Goa by ensuring real-time guest entity authentication using govt-issued identity proofs, facilitating criminal record checks and monitoring overstaying,” Goa police said.Police said that there are frontline users who will verify the visitor entity’s identity and ensure that they are not flagged as habitual offenders Then the verifying entity — labour contractors, landlords who rent property, housekeeping employers — will use the system to register the people and ensure that the identities are verified.https://www.google.com/amp/s/timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/goa-cops-plan-to-launch-app-for-real-time-checks-on-non-locals/amp_article
