SANKHALI: In a significant boost to technical education, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Monday announced that the Goa Government will cover 75 per cent of tuition fees for eligible students pursuing engineering courses in the state.
The scheme will benefit students studying in both government and private engineering colleges, including institutions such as Rajeswar College of Engineering and Don Bosco College of Engineering. Eligible students can apply through the CM Scholarship App/CARES portal, designed to streamline the application process.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Sankhali Engineers Association. Dr. Sawant said the initiative aims to make engineering education more affordable and inspire more students to pursue careers in the engineering sector.
Highlighting the growing demand for technical professionals, the Chief Minister revealed that nearly 450 engineering posts remain vacant across various government departments. He said the vacancies underline the urgent need to produce more qualified engineers to support Goa’s future development.
Dr. Sawant also urged government engineers to contribute beyond their official duties by mentoring students, sharing technical expertise and encouraging innovation among the younger generation.
Acknowledging that the high cost of engineering education often discourages students, he said the new tuition support, along with existing scholarship schemes, would substantially reduce the financial burden on families.
He further appealed to engineers, especially those from rural Goa, to guide students towards engineering and other skill-based professions that offer strong career opportunities.
Stressing the importance of a skilled workforce, the Chief Minister said Goa needs more engineers to meet the demands of infrastructure, technology and industrial growth, and encouraged students to take full advantage of the government’s support.
The event also marked the formal launch of the Sankhali Engineers Association, bringing together engineers from across the state to discuss professional development and future opportunities. Engineer Ankur Kankonkar also addressed the gathering, calling on young engineers to contribute actively to Goa’s progress.
