Panaji: Launching a blistering attack on the BJP Government, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Girish Chodankar today alleged that the unchecked spread of narcotics across Goa has exposed the complete collapse of law and order under Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant.
Shri Chodankar said that drugs have allegedly penetrated every nook and corner of Goa—from villages to educational institutions, from public spaces to even prisons—raising serious questions about the functioning of the Home Department and the political will to eradicate the drug menace.
Referring to the recent raid conducted at Colvale Central Jail by the Delhi Crime Branch and the Telangana Narcotics Cell, Shri Chodankar stated that the operation has once again exposed the alarming reach of drug networks within Goa. “If narcotics can allegedly find their way into a high-security prison, it reflects a complete breakdown of governance and security under the BJP Government,” he said.
The GPCC President further recalled that in the past, enforcement agencies had conducted raids on an alleged ketamine manufacturing unit reportedly linked to individuals associated with the BJP. He said such incidents have repeatedly raised serious concerns that deserve a transparent, impartial and time-bound investigation.
“The BJP Government has failed to protect Goa’s youth. Instead of waging a war against drug traffickers, it has allowed the drug menace to flourish unchecked. Our schools, colleges, villages and now even jails are being infiltrated by narcotics. Goa’s young generation is paying the price while the Government remains a silent spectator,” Shri Chodankar said.
In a scathing attack on the ruling party, he remarked, *“Those who project themselves as ‘Desh Ke Rakshak’ have, under their watch, reduced Goa to a playground for the drug mafia. Today, they have become ‘Goa Ke Rakshas’ by failing to safeguard the future of our youth.”*
Holding the Chief Minister directly accountable as the Home Minister of the State, Shri Chodankar demanded the immediate resignation of Dr. Pramod Sawant on moral grounds.
“If Dr. Pramod Sawant refuses to resign, the Hon’ble Governor of Goa must intervene and dismiss him from the office of Home Minister in the interest of protecting the people of Goa and restoring public confidence in the administration,” he asserted.
Shri Chodankar also demanded a comprehensive investigation into the alleged drug network operating in the State, including its suspected political and administrative links, and called for strict action against every individual found involved, irrespective of their position or political affiliation.
“The Congress Party will continue to fight relentlessly to save Goa and its youth from the growing drug menace. Goa deserves a Government that protects its people, not one that is repeatedly forced to answer uncomfortable questions about the flourishing narcotics trade,” Shri Chodankar concluded.
