Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka To Conduct Joint Cyclone Mock Drill On October 1

PANAJI: Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka will participate in a multi-state cyclone preparedness exercise on October 1 to test emergency response systems and strengthen coordination between agencies.

The exercise, coordinated by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), will simulate a severe cyclone and related emergencies across 24 locations in the three states.

In Goa, preparatory coordination meetings, site surveys and rehearsals are scheduled from September 28 to 30. District authorities in North Goa, South Goa and Kushavati have reviewed arrangements with various departments and stakeholders.

The simulated scenario includes a storm surge of up to three metres, heavy rainfall of 175–200 mm over 24–36 hours, road blockages, fishermen requiring rescue at sea, a fuel leak followed by fire and a waterfall drowning incident.

The exercise will also test the functioning of Unified Command at the State and District Emergency Operations Centres, bringing together police, fire services, medical teams, disaster response agencies, armed forces and other essential departments.

Officials said the mock drill will help identify preparedness gaps, test communication and resource mobilisation systems, and improve coordination during cyclone-related emergencies.
