PANAJI: In a major step towards combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safe disposal of seized narcotics, the Goa Police Drug Disposal Committee (DDC) destroyed 46.363 kg of narcotic drugs seized in 18 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The destruction was carried out on July 23 through high-temperature incineration at the authorised facility of Biotic Waste Solutions Private Limited at IDC, Kundaim. The destroyed narcotic substances were valued at approximately ₹2.02 crore.
The disposal process took place in the presence of Director General of Police Alok Kumar, IPS, and was supervised by the Goa Police Drug Disposal Committee. The committee included DIG of Police (Anti Narcotic Cell) Ved Prakash Surya, IPS (Chairman), SP, Anti Narcotic Cell Sunita Sawant, GPS, SP (PHQ) Tushar Vernekar, GPS, and Director of the Food & Drugs Administration Shweta Dessai.
Panch witnesses, authorised officers, and personnel from the Anti Narcotic Police Station were also present throughout the destruction process to ensure transparency and strict compliance with the legal procedures prescribed under the NDPS Act.
Goa Police stated that the timely disposal of seized narcotic substances is an important part of its strategy to prevent their misuse and reaffirmed its commitment to strict enforcement of the NDPS Act and its ongoing mission to make Goa a drug-free and safer state.
