PANAJI: Goa has made notable progress in its fight against tuberculosis, with 87 village panchayats achieving TB Mukt Panchayat status in 2025, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said.
The number of TB Mukt Panchayats has increased sharply from just two in 2023 to 87 in 2025 under the TB Mukt Panchayat Initiative, which promotes greater participation of local bodies in TB detection, prevention and treatment.
Shiroda Village Panchayat in South Goa achieved Gold Status after meeting the required performance benchmarks for three consecutive years.
Six panchayats — Revora, Nerul, Azossim-Mandur, Borim, Sarzora and Dharbandora — received Silver Status for meeting the criteria for two consecutive years.
Another 78 panchayats were awarded Bronze Status for their efforts towards tuberculosis elimination.
Rane credited Panchayati Raj Institutions, health department officials, frontline workers, Nikshay Mitras and the people of Goa for the achievement.
He said the government will continue strengthening TB detection, prevention and treatment efforts with the broader goal of achieving a TB Mukt Goa and contributing to TB Mukt Bharat.
