Goa Steps Up Clean Energy Push with New Government–GIZ Partnership

Panaji, Goa: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated a workshop on “Goa’s Clean Energy Transition: Pathways for a Sustainable Future”, highlighting the state’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and sustainable development.

During the programme, the Government of Goa and GIZ, with support from the Embassy of Germany in India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the clean energy sector.

According to the Chief Minister, the partnership will support several initiatives, including capacity building, Net Positive Panchayats, Model Solar Villages, Green Cooking, Agri-PV, Net Zero Campuses and the Goa E-Boat Pilot Programme.

Dr. Sawant said Goa’s clean energy transition must benefit all sections of society, including farmers, women, youth, self-help groups, entrepreneurs and local communities. He emphasised that renewable energy should not be viewed only as a means of reducing emissions, but also as an opportunity to create livelihoods, empower communities and build a sustainable future for the state.

The Chief Minister also congratulated the Department of New and Renewable Energy, GEDA, GIZ, the Embassy of Germany in India and other technical partners for coming together for the initiative.

The new partnership is expected to strengthen Goa’s efforts towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future while promoting community participation and green economic opportunities
