Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa President Valmiki Naik has questioned the alleged involvement of Mumbai Police in the arrest of Karapur-Sarvan protesters, asking whether “Goa has merged with Maharashtra.”
Naik claimed that some protesters from Karapur were picked up and taken to Mumbai in connection with a case linked to the ongoing opposition to the proposed housing project in the area. He alleged that due process was not followed and questioned whether the Goa Police were involved in the operation or whether the accused were produced before a magistrate before being taken across the state border.
“Dr. Pramod Sawant, I know you are rattled by the courage and perseverance of the Karapur protesters. All your desperate attempts to be a broker for the builder have failed, because Goans are not purchasable commodities like BJP leaders,” Naik said.
The AAP leader said that if allegations have been made against the protesters, they should be investigated strictly according to law. However, he alleged that the government was attempting to intimidate those opposing the Karapur project.
