Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has written to the Governor requesting that the Monsoon Session be convened for at least 15 days.
He stated that crucial issues such as the Sarvan-Karapur matter, destruction caused by provisions like Section 39-A of the TCP Act, unemployment, deteriorating law and order, inflation, and student-related concerns need to be discussed and debated in order to take appropriate measures.
“I write to you with deep concern regarding the Government’s failure to resummon the Goa Legislative Assembly, despite Your Excellency’s direction to take necessary action on my letter dated April 9, 2026, wherein I had demanded the immediate resummoning of the Assembly session,” Alemao stated in letter.
“The Thirteenth Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly was originally scheduled from March 6 to March 27, 2026. However, it was abruptly curtailed after only seven sittings, citing the Ponda by-polls and enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. This justification was unacceptable, as legislative sessions in other states continued unhindered under similar circumstances,” he said.
He said that the premature suspension deprived the Opposition of its rightful opportunity to raise pressing issues affecting the people of Goa. Citizens expect their elected representatives to deliberate and decide on crucial Bills safeguarding our land resources, environment, demography, and identity. The curtailment has left these vital matters unattended.
“I am hopeful that Governor will treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and ensure that the forthcoming Assembly session provides adequate sittings of no less than 15 days,” he said.
