PANAJI: Youth leader Prabhav Naik and Madganvcho Awaaz have welcomed the government’s decision to take up road improvement works opposite Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, claiming that the move follows repeated representations over poor road conditions, flooding and access difficulties in the area.
Naik said Madganvcho Awaaz had first approached Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on May 27, 2025, highlighting the condition of the road and the problems caused by waterlogging, particularly for patients, ambulances and emergency services travelling to GMC Bambolim.
According to Naik, after receiving no visible action for nearly a year, the group submitted a fresh representation to Gadkari on May 27, 2026, calling for an immediate inspection and corrective measures ahead of the monsoon.
The representations also raised concerns over road engineering, drainage planning and the execution of the existing infrastructure.
“Our representations to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on May 27, 2025, followed by a reminder on May 27, 2026, appear to have yielded results. The government has now taken up road improvements opposite GMC Bambolim. We welcome the move and hope the work is completed within a definite timeframe,” said Prabhav Naik.
Naik said discussions involving the Public Works Department and other concerned authorities were a positive development, but stressed that the issue should not end with meetings and assurances.
He urged the authorities to ensure that the proposed work provides a comprehensive solution to traffic congestion, drainage problems, flooding and safe access to GMC, particularly for ambulances and emergency vehicles.
“This is a reminder that persistent public representations can bring long-pending issues back onto the government’s priority list. We welcome the initiative, but the real test will be its execution and whether the problems faced by patients, doctors, staff and ambulances are finally resolved,” Naik said.
Madganvcho Awaaz said it would continue to monitor the progress of the proposed road improvements and push for timely completion of the work.
