The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress has accused the state government of failing to curb the alleged illegal operation of spas, massage parlours, and dance bars in Calangute and Panaji, claiming they have become centres of flesh trade, exploitation, and other unlawful activities. Speaking at a press conference, Mahila Congress President Dr. Pratiksha Khalap expressed concern over the increasing number of crimes against women, referring to recent rape cases and questioning how such establishments continue to function despite court directives and existing laws.
The party alleged that several spas operate without proper compliance with health, labour, and trade regulations, and questioned whether influential individuals are shielding these businesses. It also raised concerns over alleged links between some late-night spa operations and casinos, asking why such establishments remain open round the clock. Mahila Congress leaders demanded strict verification of licences, immediate closure of illegal businesses, and a detailed investigation into those responsible for permitting and protecting them.
The Congress leaders further claimed that women in Goa no longer feel as safe as they did years ago, pointing to recent incidents involving sexual assault, crimes against minors, and attacks on elderly women. They urged the government and police to strengthen law and order, dismantle illegal networks, take action against touts targeting tourists, and ensure Goa remains a safe destination for both residents and visitors. They also called for a transparent probe into the alleged financial and political backing of such illegal operations and demanded accountability from the authorities.
