MARGAO: Maina-Curtorim Police have urged school counsellors to promptly report suspected cases of child abuse, drug use and other activities that threaten students’ safety.
The advisory was discussed during a meeting with nine school counsellors, focusing on identifying warning signs such as behavioural changes, irregular attendance and suspicious activities around school premises.
The police also highlighted concerns over drug and tobacco consumption among students and stressed the importance of recognising possible abuse and harassment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) framework.
School counsellors were encouraged to maintain close coordination with the police and report concerns without delay.
The initiative aims to strengthen child protection measures through early intervention and better cooperation between educational institutions and law enforcement agencies.
