AAP is determined to secure welfare for every Goan. We will not stop until every household receives complete relief from high electricity bills.” – Neash Coutinho
Margao, 25 June 2026
AAP Organisational Secretary Prashant Naik, South Goa Youth Wing President Neash Coutinho, along with residents of Margao and Navelim, staged a protest outside the Margao Power House after the government failed to provide a fixed date for the complete waiver of high electricity bills.
AAP stated that merely revising electricity bills or adjusting the excess amount in future bills is not an acceptable solution. The party demanded that all inflated electricity bills issued from January till 15 June must be completely nullified through an official government order. AAP also demanded that consumers who have already paid such bills must receive full refunds, as many families were forced to borrow money and take small loans to clear the exorbitant bills.
Addressing the media, AAP Organisational Secretary Prashant Naik said that after meeting officials at the Margao Power House, they were informed that the bills would merely be revised. However, he said AAP had categorically rejected this proposal, making it clear that people do not want revised bills but a complete waiver of all high electricity bills. He stated that AAP has consistently demanded that all bills issued from January till 15 June be officially waived off, not merely adjusted in future billing cycles. He stated that BJP govt has already looted 43crores from Goans through electricity penalties and if BJP comes to power again, this number will keep on going high, leaving Goans crushed under BJP’s corruption system.
Prashant Naik said that thousands of consumers had already paid these bills by borrowing money, taking loans or using their savings, pushing many families into severe financial distress. He demanded that those who have already paid must receive full refunds so that genuine relief reaches the people. He added that the government cannot first force people to pay unaffordable bills and then expect them to wait indefinitely for relief. He announced that AAP has given the Electricity Department time until Monday to issue an official waiver order, failing which residents from across Margao Taluka, along with AAP leaders, will launch an indefinite sit-in protest outside the department until the bills are completely waived off.
AAP South Goa Youth Wing President Neash Coutinho stated that the BJP Government has shown absolutely no accountability for the hardship imposed on ordinary Goans. He pointed out that the due dates for electricity bills are fast approaching, yet neither the Chief Minister nor the Power Minister has issued any official notification granting relief to consumers. He said people continue to visit Electricity Department offices every day because they are still receiving inflated bills despite repeated assurances from the government.
Neash Coutinho stated that the government cannot continue giving hollow assurances while ordinary families remain under financial anxiety. He warned that if the government continues delaying relief, AAP will intensify its agitation across Goa and stand shoulder to shoulder with the people until every affected consumer receives justice.
The party warned that if the government fails to issue an official order waiving the bills by Monday, residents from across Margao Taluka, along with AAP leaders, will launch an indefinite sit-in protest outside the Electricity Department until an official waiver order is issued.
