Belagavi, July 9: Heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra triggered a landslide near Amboli Ghat on Tuesday night, sending massive boulders crashing onto the road and disrupting traffic.
A major tragedy was narrowly averted as a bus and a car escaped the falling rocks by just moments. The vehicles managed to pass the affected stretch before the boulders came down, preventing what could have been a serious accident.
The landslide was triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the region, highlighting the risks posed by the ongoing monsoon season in the hilly Western Ghats. Authorities responded to the incident, and efforts were undertaken to clear the debris and restore normal traffic movement.
Motorists have been advised to exercise extreme caution while travelling through ghat sections during heavy rains, as landslides and rockfalls remain a significant threat during the monsoon.
