BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police have identified a 17-year-old boy as the driver of a car allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident that left two women pedestrians injured near Dnyanjyoti High School at Karapur, Bicholim.
According to police, the accident occurred on August 1, 2026, at around 3.15 pm when a blue-coloured car travelling from Karapur towards Sarvan allegedly struck two pedestrians, Usha Morajkar and Anju Salgaonkar, both residents of Kolamwada, Karapur, causing them simple injuries.
Police said the driver allegedly fled the scene without stopping or providing medical assistance to the injured women.
During the investigation, officers examined CCTV footage from the area with the assistance of local residents, which led to the identification of the suspected vehicle bearing registration number GA-03-H-4171.
Further verification revealed that the car was still registered in the name of Rajendra D. Mirajkar of Porvorim. However, Mirajkar informed police that he had sold the vehicle about a month earlier and that the transfer of ownership was still pending with the Regional Transport Office.
Based on the information gathered, police traced the vehicle to Gaonkarwada in Bicholim, where it was found parked near Shantadurga Temple. During inspection, officers noticed fresh scratch marks on the left front bumper and the left-side rear-view mirror, which were found to be consistent with the reported accident.
Police identified the present owner as Nityanand Gosavi of Shardanagar, Mayem, Bicholim. During the course of the investigation, his 17-year-old son was identified as the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident and allegedly admitted his involvement.
The vehicle has been seized under panchanama, and further investigation is being carried out by Head Constable Babu Vithal Jangale of Bicholim Police Station.
