MLA VIRESH BORKAR EXPOSES ASSAGAO MEGA PROJECT CONTROVERSY: “NO ROAD, YET TCP PERMISSION!”

Assagao, Goa | 23 October 2026:Raising serious questions over the approval process for a controversial mega project in Assagao, St. Andre MLA Shri Viresh Borkar has highlighted concerns regarding the grant of permission by the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department despite questions over road access to the project site.

During a site inspection, MLA Viresh Borkar brought attention to the apparent lack of adequate road access and questioned how permission could be granted for such a large-scale development under these circumstances. The issue has raised concerns over the planning process, infrastructure requirements and the accountability of the authorities responsible for granting approvals.

“No Road, Yet TCP Permission!” — the controversy has brought the spotlight on whether essential infrastructure and access requirements were adequately assessed before granting permission to the project.

The MLA stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in development-related decisions, particularly when they have a direct impact on local residents, the surrounding environment and the long-term interests of the community.

The inspection also underscored the need for the concerned authorities to clarify the basis on which the project received permission and whether all applicable planning norms and statutory requirements were duly followed.

Development must not come at the cost of public interest. The people of Assagao deserve clear answers, transparent decision-making and accountability from the authorities concerned.
