PANAJI: The internal rift within the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) intensified on Monday after MLA Viresh Borkar rejected his reported expulsion from the party, calling the termination order “null and void” and lacking constitutional authority.
Reacting to the party’s decision, Borkar said legal opinion obtained from a senior advocate supports his stand that the RGP constitution vests authority with the National President. He argued that the disciplinary action initiated against him has no legal or constitutional standing.
“We will soon expose the real agenda behind these developments. The relevant constitutional provisions and facts will be presented before the people,” Borkar said.
Earlier, the Revolutionary Goans Party announced that Borkar’s primary membership had been terminated with immediate effect following disciplinary proceedings. The party instructed him not to represent the RGP or issue statements on its behalf, warning that any such communication would be considered unauthorised and invalid.
The termination order was reportedly sent to Borkar through the party’s official email.
Dismissing the action, Borkar asserted that he remains the party’s founder member, sitting MLA and National President. He also stated that he would contest the upcoming Goa Assembly elections as an RGP candidate.
Meanwhile, RGP leader Ajay Kholkar defended the party’s decision, alleging that Borkar had attempted to split the organisation, remove party president Manoj Parab, and align with another political party despite receiving multiple notices. Kholkar maintained that Borkar’s expulsion has taken immediate effect and that he no longer has any connection with the RGP.
The dispute marks another chapter in the ongoing leadership battle within the Revolutionary Goans Party, with both factions asserting that they are acting in accordance with the party’s constitution.
