Panaji, July 8: In a significant victory for student welfare, the relentless efforts of NSUI Goa have resulted in Goa University granting a one-time relaxation under Ordinances OC-81 and OC-82, providing much-needed relief to hundreds of law students who were facing uncertainty over their academic future.
Following sustained representations, continuous follow-up, and the gherao of the Vice Chancellor’s office by NSUI Goa demanding justice for affected students, the Goa University Academic Council has approved a one-time concession for the first batch of students enrolled under the new ordinances. As per the University’s circular dated 6th July 2026, students with not more than five backlogs across Semesters I to IV will now be eligible for admission to the Third Year. Additionally, students awaiting the declaration of Semester IV and repeat examination results will be granted provisional admission, ensuring that they do not lose an academic year.
Welcoming the decision, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Girish Chodankar congratulated the NSUI Goa team for their unwavering commitment and determined fight on behalf of students.
“This decision is a testament to the power of democratic struggle and persistent follow-up. When students’ genuine concerns are raised with sincerity and conviction, positive change is possible. I congratulate every NSUI worker who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the students and ensured that their voices were heard,” Shri Girish Chodankar said.
He further urged NSUI Goa to continue championing the cause of students across the State and remain at the forefront in addressing issues relating to education, examinations, admissions, infrastructure, scholarships, and employment opportunities.
“Congress has always stood with students, youth and every section of society seeking justice. NSUI must continue to be the voice of students and fight fearlessly for their rights. This victory should inspire greater commitment towards resolving every genuine issue faced by the student community,” Shri Chodankar added.
NSUI Goa stated that the University’s decision has safeguarded the academic future of hundreds of law students and reaffirmed that peaceful, democratic movements can bring meaningful change. The organisation reiterated its commitment to continue working tirelessly for student welfare and ensuring that no deserving student is deprived of educational opportunities due to procedural hardships.
