Panaji:The bill approved by the Central Government regarding reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST) has been prepared only after a detailed legal study and consultation with experts. Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant has appealed to people not to create unnecessary confusion over the issue.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said:
Proper Legal Process: The bill has been prepared by the Central Government after thoroughly examining all legal aspects and facts related to the issue.
Population Census: Although reference is being made to the 2001 Census, the actual population of the ST community existing till date will be taken into consideration. The Commissioner or Commission appointed for the purpose will conduct a proper assessment of all relevant factors.
Inclusion of Gawda, Kunbi and Velip Communities: The population of communities that have already been granted ST status, such as Gawda, Kunbi and Velip, will be appropriately considered based on their population across the respective constituencies.
“Once the Commissioner is appointed, the entire study process will be completed within this month. Therefore, there is no need to create unnecessary confusion or misunderstanding.”

Addressing the ongoing discussions surrounding ST reservation, the Chief Minister assured all sections that the entire process would be carried out strictly in accordance with the law and established rules.
