Supreme Court Verdict a Wake-Up Call for BJP Government, Says Amit Patkar; Demands Regularisation of Eligible Employees Before Ganesh Chaturthi

Panaji, August 6: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar has welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict in favour of PWD workers, describing it as a victory for justice, fairness, and the dignity of government employees.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Patkar said the judgment highlighted what he called the BJP government's unjust treatment of its own employees. He alleged that instead of recognising the services of eligible workers, the government forced them into prolonged legal battles.

Patkar urged the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, to immediately announce a comprehensive policy to regularise all similarly placed eligible employees across every government department. He said justice should not be selective and that every eligible employee deserves equal treatment, regardless of the department in which they serve.

He further stated that employees should not be compelled to approach the courts individually to secure benefits that could be granted administratively. According to Patkar, the government has both a constitutional and moral responsibility to extend the benefits of the Supreme Court's ruling to all eligible employees without delay.

Appealing to the government to act before Ganesh Chaturthi, Patkar said such a decision would allow thousands of employees and their families to celebrate the festival with dignity, security, and hope.

Patkar also warned that if the government fails to announce a comprehensive regularisation policy before Ganesh Chaturthi, he will launch a statewide democratic movement demanding justice for all deserving employees.

"The Supreme Court has delivered its verdict. The Government must now decide whether it stands with the workers of Goa or continues to deny justice to those who have devoted years of service to the State. The time for excuses is over. The time for justice is now," Patkar said.
