The Sessions Court in Mapusa has sentenced two accused, Umesh Lamani and Daya Shankar Sahu, to life imprisonment

The Sessions Court in Mapusa has sentenced two accused, Umesh Lamani and Daya Shankar Sahu, to life imprisonment for the 2018 murder of restaurant owner Vishwajeet Singh in Candolim. The case dates back to August 7, 2018, when Singh filed a complaint against Lamani, his employee, for stealing his Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle. In a shocking turn of events, Lamani and Sahu stabbed Singh to death with a knife and sword in the parking area of his apartment complex. The accused were arrested from Karnataka by then-Calangute Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi. The investigation was thorough, involving recovery of assault weapons, vitness identification, evidence collection, and seizure of CCTV footage. The investigation team consisted of DySP Jivba Dalvi (then Police Inspector of Calangute Police Station), PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Mahesh Naik, ASI Subhash Malvankar and other staff. The prosecution of the case was conducted by PP Anuradha Talaulikar, PP Jennifer Santamaria and PP Roy D'Souza. The judgement was pronounced by Hon'ble District Judge Smt. Sharmila Patil.
