PANAJI: Three separate road accidents in Maina, Ponda and Canacona have left several people injured, including two pedestrians who sustained grievous injuries. Police have registered cases and initiated investigations into all three incidents.
In the first incident, a woman pedestrian sustained grievous injuries after an Aprilia scooter allegedly hit her near Maina Church on October 26 at around 9.30 am.
According to a complaint lodged by ASI Rajendra Sangodkar of Maina Curtorim Police Station, rider Rohit Sakharkar, a resident of Aquem Alto, Margao, was travelling from Maina towards Mugali when he allegedly rode rashly and negligently and struck Manika Thomas Mascarenhas, a resident of San Jose de Areal, Mugali, from behind. The woman was walking towards Mugali when she fell onto the road following the impact.
In a separate incident in Ponda, a pedestrian suffered grievous injuries after an unidentified motorcycle rider allegedly hit him at a zebra crossing outside Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir on October 25 at around 11.05 pm.
As per the complaint filed by Vishan Korde of Bethora, Ponda, the motorcycle rider was travelling towards Bethora from Ponda town when he allegedly struck the complainant’s father, Vasudev Korde, who was crossing the road. The rider allegedly fled the scene without providing medical assistance or informing the police.
The third accident occurred near the Forest Nursery at Ozrem, Bhatpal, Canacona, on October 18 at around 5.45 pm, when a Hero Passion motorcycle collided with an oncoming Hero Pleasure scooter.
According to the complaint lodged by Head Constable Diptesh Gaonkar of Canacona Police Station, motorcycle rider Mohan Gaonkar, a resident of Karvem, Gaondongrim, was travelling from New Wada towards Ozrem when he allegedly rode rashly and negligently and collided with the scooter ridden by Olei Coutinho, a resident of Ozrem.
Both riders fell onto the road along with their vehicles following the collision. Coutinho sustained grievous injuries, while the motorcycle rider suffered simple injuries.
Further investigations into the Maina, Ponda and Canacona accidents are being conducted by the respective police personnel.
