VASCO: A parked Maruti Swift sustained damage after a tree was uprooted and fell on the vehicle near the Velankanni Chapel adjacent to Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) Gate No. 9 on Thursday. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the tree suddenly collapsed, trapping the parked car beneath its branches and causing damage to a section of the vehicle. The incident quickly attracted local residents and passersby, who gathered at the scene.
The vehicle’s driver escaped unharmed, and no other persons were affected.
Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and used specialised equipment to cut and remove the fallen tree. Officials from other departments also visited the site to assess the situation and oversee the clearance operation.
Traffic movement in the area was temporarily affected while the tree was removed and the road was cleared for motorists.
Although the exact reason for the tree’s collapse is yet to be determined, initial indications suggest that recent heavy rainfall and strong winds may have weakened its roots. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert during the monsoon season and report any dangerous or unstable trees to prevent similar incidents.
