MANGALURU: Karnataka excise officials have arrested two people after intercepting a vehicle allegedly transporting liquor from Goa without the required permits.
The accused have been identified as Basavaraju Bovi, the vehicle owner and driver, and Nagaveni Nayaka.
Acting on a tip-off about suspected interstate liquor transportation, an excise team intercepted a Swift Dzire and seized the vehicle along with 438 litres of liquor, officials said.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mangaluru Division Excise Joint Commissioner Balakrishna C H and Dakshina Kannada Excise Deputy Commissioner Bindushree.
A case has been registered by Excise Inspector Sunitha from the Joint Commissioner’s office.
Officials are now investigating the alleged source and intended destination of the liquor and whether more people are connected to the suspected interstate smuggling network.
